Pupo Walker studied in Havana, Cuba, at the Conjunto Folklorico Nacional de Cuba and in Matanzas, Cuba, with the world famous Los Munequitos de Matanzas percussion ensemble. He searched for specific instructors throughout his career, delving into the drum dialects of the Brazilian Batucad and the Caribbean rhythms of the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and many others. He formed an eclectic drum jazz band, Manah in Seattle; recorded and toured with BRAD with Pearl Jam; and regularly performed with Reggie Watts.
